Cambridge English examination award presentation ceremony 2017

Reported by ELC
On Tuesday, 28th of February, 2017, 36 top achievers of Cambridge English Key (KET), Cambridge English Preliminary (PET), Cambridge English First (FCE) and Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) examinations came together for the Cambridge English examination award presentation   ceremony. It was held at the presentation hall on the 9th floor, Science & Technology Tower. These top achievers were awarded trophies and Cambridge dictionaries sponsored by GPEX Central, the Cambridge English test center.
The ceremony was attended by representatives  from  GPEX, Mr Cheong and Mr Bryan Teow, the head of ELC, Mdm Boo, all English language  teachers and thirty-six top achievers. It was a simple yet memorable ceremony. The event kicked off with a motivational speech by Ms Chua, a member of the ELC management committee. Ms Chua not only applauded the top achievers for their excellent performance in the Cambridge exams but also encouraged the students to continue persistently on their language-learning journey at Hin Hua High School. A big round of applause was given to all the top achievers at the end of the speech.
Hin Hua High School has been certified Cambridge English School since October 2015. The approaches to classroom learning and assessment have been transformed in order to give students the confidence and skills to communicate with people as well as to prepare students for international accreditation. At Hin Hua High School, 4 levels of Cambridge English Examinations are offered, i.e. Key for Schools (KET), Preliminary for Schools (PET), First for Schools (FCE) and Advanced (CAE). With a Cambridge English certificate, students will be able to prove their English language skills to universities, employers and governments around the world.  More than 6,000 educational institutions, businesses and government departments around the world accept Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) as proof of high-level achievement in learning English.

According to Mdm Boo, the vice-principal and Head of ELC, 734 students signed up for the Cambridge English in 2016. The top achievers were selected from the candidates who scored the 5 highest score in each examination and the ceremony was held to celebrate their achievement. It is commendable that some top achievers from the higher level of exam are very young learners. To recognise the effort put in by the top achievers, those Junior One candidates who scored Pass with Distinction in Cambridge Key for Schools were given an opportunity to skip EIM 2 level and be promoted to EIM 3 level in 2017. As for the minority of students who did not perform well, the ELC has assigned a teacher to provide some personalised assistance to help them improve based on their statement of results. A weekly tutorial class has also been arranged to provide extra coaching and resources to students who are keen to improve their English language skills. All students are encouraged to attend the tutorial class on Wednesdays from 3:20 pm to 4:20 pm and their participation will also be acknowledged with tokens of appreciation.
