Drama Competition

Compiled by Ms. Evon
The English Language Centre organised a drama competition on the 19th of July 2014 at the school hall. The Drama Competition serves as a platform for students to promote and demonstrate creative ideas in their work and also to improve their command of the language. It is also a way to instill values amongst students to be more sensitive and appreciative towards arts.

This competition was open to all Hin Hua High School students with no more than 15 participants in each team from any level or class. It can be a combination of senior and junior students in one team. Each team was also required to have an English teacher as a mentor. The teams were given 15 minutes to present their drama. Judging was based on creativity (35%), language (30%), overall coordination and performance (25%) and positive values/messages (10%).

Judges commented that there were creative use of props, appropriate gestures and movements. The pronunciation and intonation used were also commendable and there was hardly any use of Manglish.

In conclusion, all participants demonstrated professionalism in their acting skills. The judges also said there is always room for improvement and commented on areas that participants should work on such as facial expressions, body language and voice projection. In addition, participants were asked to think out of the box and include some community-based or environmental-based values or messages for future competitions.

Once again, congratulations to all winners!

The winners of the competition are as follows:
