From the 7th to the 29th of November, the English Language Centre, in collaboration with the Guidance Department, teachers, staff, students and parents contributed over 400 units of necessities to the Grace Home Old Folks Home. Teachers, students and staff took tags that had the home’s wishlist (such as toiletries, supplements and foodstuff) hung on the ELC Christmas tree and donated them based on their own budget. Some teachers and students contributed as a class (both English and original classes), and some students got their parents involved as well. There were also societies and departments that contributed to the cause. The response was so overwhelming that the Christmas gifts took up all the space under the Christmas tree. We would like to thank all participants for gifting the home with their daily needs, sharing love and hope to the residents of Grace Home.
Ms Shanthini (ELC teacher)
The Christmas ‘Season of Gifting’ Event is a felicitous event initiated by the ELC as Christmas is a celebration of love, joy, and peace and these are the greatest gifts that we can give to others. It was heart-warming to see the overwhelming support from everyone for this event. I am happy to be a part of Hin Hua, in particular, the English Language Center, to have spread love, joy, and peace to the Grace Old Folks Home and everyone - the joy of giving and the joy of receiving.
Mr Liu Kiu Chin (Head, Co-curriculum Department)
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” This is truly a meaningful statement. During festive seasons, sharing our blessings is a wonderful thing, because as we celebrate, we can share our joy and blessings with those who may feel that it’s just another ordinary Christmas. We believe that they will feel our warmth and love as they receive our gifts, and feel joy in their hearts. Lastly, the Co-curriculum Department wishes one and all a Merry Christmas.
Yew Jin Harn (S2Athens)
When Miss Wendy encouraged us to participate in the Season of Gifting activity, we, S2 Athens, agreed to it immediately. All of us, including Miss Wendy, contributed RM2 each to buy a gift for the elderly in Grace Home. We originally wanted to buy large muscle pain patches but it didn’t work out since we could only buy a few packets with the money we had. We then settled on buying floor cleaners instead and our class monitors were able to purchase eight bottles of floor cleaners. We boxed them up, wrote that it was from S2 Athens and Miss Wendy on the tag, and placed it under the Christmas tree at ELC. We sincerely hope our act of kindness will fill the hearts of the residents at the old folk's home with warmth and happiness on Christmas day.
