Christmas is Near! A time of giving, forgiving, love and joy02

Mr Weldon (ELC teacher)
I felt the workshop was very beneficial to the students. Not only were they able to take part in a fun activity, they were also exposed to something they normally wouldn't think about. Although most of the gingerbread men didn't come out looking perfect, the students were still able to express their creativity when decorating them.

Hosting this baking workshop has certainly been momentous for me. I would like to thank ELC for initiating this workshop, and the members of the Culinary Society who volunteered to help out. I am honestly so thrilled about the workshop, as it was a smashing success. Giving participants hands-on experience in making and decorating their own gingerbread men was a fun way to rekindle their Christmas spirit. I received several commendations, and I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm. In the future, if time permits, I hope another fun baking workshop will be held.

Ang Zhen Tao (S2 Wellington)
What a day! I'm really proud of the event the ELC and the Culinary Society put together, arguably one of the best. All have done an amazing job of juggling so many things at once, with the process, explanation, and arrangement. You have done an awesome job and I'm delighted to have participated in this event.

Khoo Yan Yee (S1 London)
I had fun attending the baking workshop with my friends. We chatted so much during the baking. It is really interesting. I had so much fun throughout the workshop. We shaped the dough into many cute gingerbread men and decorated them with icing. It tasted good with the icing. Although some of the gingerbread men were burnt, overall they were still good. I hope that there will be more baking workshops in the future.

To introduce everyone in Hin Hua to the cultures and traditions of Christmas, the English Language Centre created a Christmas-themed crossword puzzle to be done in class during weeks 21 and 22. A Christmas poem by Clement Clarke Moore entitled ‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’ was introduced to the students, providing them with some context for the crossword while at the same time teaching the appreciation of literature. The ELC teachers shared their PowerPoint slides and teaching plans for this unique activity which helped make it fun yet meaningful.

I was thrilled to participate in the activities the ELC had to offer, in particular, the Christmas Crossword Puzzle which taught us more about the festive season through a fun and enjoyable way. Everyone had a great time solving the puzzle and it helped put us in a Christmas mood! Thank you ELC and Merry Christmas to all.

Ms Jaspreet (ELC teacher)
The Christmas-themed crossword puzzle was a challenging and enjoyable activity that made students think critically for the right words to complete the crossword. Basically, students were given approximately 15 minutes to complete the crossword puzzle followed by background Christmas songs as requested by students, which made it pleasurable, and at the same time having the spirit to compete with other students in completing the crossword. Students were very enthusiastic and high spirited throughout the activity. Their expressions revealed how deep and involved they were to the very end. The activity was significant and lots of laughter and cheering could be heard when the answers were revealed and the students were pleased when given the candy cane as a reward.

Mr Law Thian Huat (Business Studies Teacher)
Firstly, I would like to thank the ELC for their dedication in organising this meaningful celebration. We get to learn the origin and history of different cultures and experience different ways of celebrating this festival. This promotes the spirit of mutual respect and tolerance for all different cultures. I look forward to more varieties of activities like this in the future.

The Christmas programme is sponsored by the Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay and Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong Aided Hin Hua High School English Language Centre Teacher and Student Training Charitable Fund. We hope that these activities have brought you joy and love, and we at the ELC wish all of you a blessed Christmas and a happy new year.
