The More the Merrier with Fun English! ELC Ambassadors Club# English Week01

After two years of having an empty school campus, the English Language Centre was brought to life again with about 180 participants in the 2022 English Week organised by the English Ambassador’s Club, supported by the ELC. The ELC was bustling with activities and an atmosphere of gaiety from the 25th to the 29th of July 2022.The English Week aimed to enhance the students’ confidence and language proficiency. It also provided a good training ground and opportunities for students to use and develop the language in a fun and exciting way. The English Week was carried out at the ELC Reading corner, during the first recess of all the five days. Students were rewarded based on their participation in the six activities.

Day 1 -  “Bookmark Designing”. Participants were given some materials to design their own bookmark citing any famous quotes. They were also encouraged to create their own quotes and write them in the bookmarks. The outcome of this activity was mesmerising as some students came up with  really creative quotes and designs.

Day 2 -  “Word Search” and “Vocabulary Building”. For the thematic word search activity, each participant was to find  the words arranged in the grid in the hardcopy provided. As for the vocabulary building, participants had to extract at least eight words from a list of  words provided.

Day 3 - “Pictorial Idioms”. Pictorial clues  associated with eight idioms  were put up on four art stands. In pairs, participants were required to guess all the eight idioms by looking at the clues. It was encouraging to see our participants walking around ELC enthusiastically to guess all the idioms.

Day 4 -  crossword puzzle. Participants were to identify the words in the grid, horizontally and vertically with the help of hints given for each word. The participants were extremely focused when doing this activity individually, and some sought help from their peers when they were stumped.

Day 5 - Finally, the last day of English Week was one of the most exciting ones. Participants, in groups of 3, competed against different groups to answer questions on “Homonyms & Homophones” on a board game. The questions were either in the form of fill in the blanks or role-play. Students enjoyed the role play the most with plenty of engagement and laughter ringing throughout ELC .
