All participants were given a stamp on their Bingo card after each activity. Students were elated when they received each stamp, which motivated them to participate in all the subsequent activities on the English Week. The rewards for the English Week were given based on the number of stamps that they had received. Attractive prizes were sponsored by the Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay and Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong Aided Hin Hua High School English Language Centre Teacher and Student Training Charitable Fund to acknowledge their participation and also to encourage them to participate in more activities held in ELC in the future. Overall, we had an overwhelming response and students were very active in all the activities.
A massive pre-loved book sale was also held across the entire week and extended all the way through to the end of August. Many students came and browsed through the collection, and approximately 140 books were sold at RM2 each.
The English Language Centre would like to congratulate the Ambassador’s Club, committee, and teachers-in-charge (Ms Thino, Ms Suchatra and Ms Suarnah) for putting in a lot of time and effort to make this event a truly momentous and successful one. We would also like to express our gratitude to those who have put their heart into participating in various activities throughout the week. It is hoped that this programme encouraged students to love learning English and ultimately build up their language proficiency and confidence level.
Some of our participants’ feedback:
This is my first time taking part in the activities organised by the English Language Centre during the English week. I participated in all the activities such as bookmark designing, word search, vocabulary building, pictorial idiom, crossword puzzle, and board game. The activity that I liked the most was vocabulary building because I managed to learn a lot of new vocabulary. After that, I also got some attractive gifts so I felt as happy as a king. Overall, I like the English Week a lot because it gives us opportunities to learn and use English outside the classroom through fun and engaging activities. Therefore, I will definitely participate in events like this in the future.
This is my first time participating in ELC’s programme. There were many interesting activities such as bookmark designing, pictioral idioms, crossword puzzles and so on. I participated in all the activities and collected six stamps. I was delighted with my achievement. Of all the activities, I liked the board game because the game was a version of snake and ladder. I had to play with my friends to beat the other group. I had fun and hope to join more activities next year.
What a memorable week! It really feels nice to be able to take part in these well-planned activities after two years of being "imprisoned" in our home. Throughout the week, I was able to tell that the students who stepped foot into the ELC had a great time while learning and spending time with others, including myself. I looked forward to going to ELC along with my friend but I also stayed for the lively aura, especially the volunteers, who all left a long-lasting impression on me because of how soft-spoken, kind and inspiring they are. Overall, since it is my first time participating, kudos to everyone! So great to see students taking English seriously.
