The English Week was organised and carried out by the English Society as part of their co-curricular activities. It was held during the first recesses and after school throughout the whole week from 25th to 29th July, 2016. A food tasting event was held during the first recesses where various English delicacies such as sandwiches, cookies, fruits, cakes, puffs, cream rolls and English tea were prepared for students and teachers to taste. Other activities such as Mural Painting, Movie Watching, General Knowledge Quiz, English Writers and Poets Exhibition and Board Games gained tremendous support and participation from all students and teachers.
The highlight of the English Week was an Engl
ish Language Mini Carnival jointly organized by the English Language Club and English Language Society. It was held for two afternoons on 25 and 26 July. The concept of this language-based game carnival was inspired by the one held in Help University for all Chinese Independent School students earlier this year.
A total of 12 different game booths, featuring games such as Word Search, Human Bingo, Cut-up Sentences, 3-line Poem and Charade, were set up in RenAi Square. Most of the booths were operated by either society or club members. This carnival was open to students from all levels. All in all, 22 teams, comprising three members each, participated in this event. They had a blast running from one booth to another to complete the activities listed in their score sheet within the stipulated time, and to collect points. Three winning teams were selected for each day and every winner received a goodie bag, sponsored by the school and the English Club.
This carnival, despite being its first ever, was a success and could potentially be an annual event.
This is the first time that the English Society had taken up the challenge in organising the English Week for the whole school to participate. All members of the English Society had put in their hard work and spent months to prepare for this event which proved to be very successful and motivating. It is hoped that the English Society would keep up with their good work and organize similar activities for all students in order to promote team-work, creativity and fun ways of learning and communicating in English.
