It is noticed that many students are well aware of the use of Google Translate in their daily life. While the convenience is appreciated, over-dependence on the online translation tool may form some limitations in learning new vocabulary, be it for their writing, projects or other English-related activities. In order to provide more suitable and helpful resources to students, the English Language Centre invited Mrs Siow, who has 33 years of teaching experience in the English language from the ELC, to share with all the Senior One students the use of appropriate online tools to facilitate their learning of the English language. The main focus of the workshop was to introduce online collocation dictionaries as references for students. Overall it was a fruitful session, and we hope that students will use these resources in the future to better their language proficiency.

Ms Shyne ( ELC teacher)
The session conducted by Mrs. Siow was very useful to students. Not only did she teach them how to use an online collocations dictionary, she also showed them how they can use words in different contexts. If students include this tool consistently into their language learning, I am sure they will improve tremendously, especially in their writing.
Fujiana Tanoto (S1 Melbourne)
My experience in this collocation class was very new and amusing; it's not like the usual workshop or seminar which bores me. Collocation was always a topic that I am poor at, and the website that Mrs. Siow showed us was convenient and beneficial for both beginners and intermediates. Thank you ELC for hosting this workshop, and I hope that we can have more workshops like this in the future!
Low Shu Ling (S1 Berlin)
From this workshop, I have learnt a few phrases that I didn't think could go together. The use of collocations dictionary was something useful and it could help me with sentence constructions and essay writings. It definitely helped increase my knowledge. It is fun having seminars like this once in a while. Ms Yew Fong conducted the workshop by asking interesting questions and had some interesting giveaways for students who took part during the Q&A session. If there's a similar activity in the future, I hope to learn more vocabularies that are more advanced and also useful in life.
