The English Language Centre has recently launched 'Unlock,' an English Language UEC Exam Preparation Programme specifically designed for senior three students, where 'a to u is just an unlock away'. This initiative aims to empower students on their journey to English proficiency and exam success. Unlock is structured to uphold the grades of students anticipated to reach A1 and A2 proficiency levels, while concurrently concentrating on uplifting the potential grades of those currently at B3 and B4 levels to an A, and enhancing grades below that threshold to at least a B.
The program comprises two distinct class categories: 'Enhanced' for students exhibiting higher language proficiency and 'Essential' for those seeking improvement in English. Students are given the autonomy to choose classes corresponding to their proficiency levels, with all classes being optional. Each session specifies recommended categories and covered content, allowing students to attend at their discretion. By this, students are empowered to make decisions that will impact their own learning outcome.
To cater to varying dismissal times, classes are scheduled in two sessions, taking place on Mondays (for Essential) and Fridays (for Enhanced). The first session runs from 1350 to 1440 (9th period), followed by the second session from 1440 to 1520 (10th period), where the same content is covered during both sessions.
The lead in this initiative is Mr. Yong Kai Seng, serving as the Unlock instructor. Google Classroom and Google Drive serve as the primary platforms for students to access assignments and revision materials throughout the program.

UNLOCK, as its name suggests, is an initiative designed to unleash the potential of senior three students to excel in the upcoming UEC examination. As a recent graduate of Hin Hua High School, I am able to offer tips and tricks from a student’s perspective to help students navigate the exam curriculum strategically. I am confident that this new initiative will not only set a standard for revision tailored for the UEC but also provide students with a platform to develop their own long term strategies for mastering the English Language.
