The English Language Centre has entered its 4th year organising the poster making competition. The competition aims to encourage students to interact and collaborate with one another, and bring their understanding to life in a fun way. It also promotes creativity and showcases students’ talents and skills through the making of posters.
This year, the students from each level were provided with the respective themes as follows: “Joy” (Junior 1), “Environmental Protection” (Junior 2), “ Random Acts of Kindness” (Junior 3), “Digital Natives” (Senior 1), “Live Twice” (Senior 2) and “Vision 2030” (Senior 3). The participants were encouraged to submit their posters digitally due to school closure. This activity is one of the ways ELC provides students with a platform to collaboratively display their creativity and imagination while designing their posters in a concise and unique way, as well as apply the strategies to create written and visual texts in English. They are required to present a description explaining the choice of colours, the choice of visuals and graphics, the wording or slogan created and the message conveyed through their artwork.
There were a total of 164 entries to shortlist from, which made the decision making tough for the panels of judges. According to the judges from the respective levels, many posters were designed creatively with well-conveyed messages and comprehensive descriptions in relation to their images, colours and layouts. At the same time, there is room for improvement. The participants are reminded to pay more attention to the themes given in order to grasp a better understanding of them. Besides, originality has to be prioritised for each team to stand out among the rest.We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the winners and heartfelt thanks to all the participants. The winning pieces will be published in Hin Hua Love Reading ezine and posted on the ELC Google Sites.
