HUMOUR
There was a funny young lad called Humour
Surrounding him was a dubious rumour
From day through night the people would whisper
“This man could cure any tumour!”
She was a frail lady sick and old
Couldn’t live for long, so she was told
But then Humour entered her threshold
And suddenly she was as good as gold
The houses of the ill he’d frequent
And they’d all be rid of their ailments
The people just nod in silent agreement
After all, laughter is the best treatment!
First Prize
Annabelle Kang Huei Min ( Senior 1 Canberra)
I came to know about the competition when my English teacher, Ms Chua, asked the whole class to take part in it. The topic on humour wasn’t really an easy one. I spent days trying to come up with a good poem and it wasn’t until the final day of submission that an inkling of an idea came to me. To be honest, I treated this as a mere piece of homework and did not think much of it after sending it to the organiser. The winning came to be a total surprise but I am thankful for being given this opportunity.
